The Wayback Program
A structured, compassionate path to lasting recovery — designed around you.
Wayback provides gender-specific, supported residential rehabilitation designed to foster independence and personal accountability. Unlike traditional inpatient facilities, our model offers a balance of professional support and autonomy — you will have full access to our clinical team at our Harris Park head office during business hours and 24/7 phone support after hours, while residing in staff-free community housing.
Our comprehensive program runs for approximately 9 months and is divided into four distinct phases, each building on the last to help you develop the skills, confidence, and accountability needed for a drug and alcohol-free life.

About Each Phase
Assessment Phase (2–4 Weeks)
A foundational period to help you settle into the environment, build rapport with your case manager, and ensure the program aligns with your recovery goals. At the conclusion of the assessment period, you will appear before the Review Panel, who will assess your engagement and determine whether you progress to the Initial Phase, have your assessment extended, or are discharged.
Initial Phase (2 Months)
This is the settling-in phase, focused on establishing and engaging fully in program activities. Clients are not permitted weekend leave, to work, or to undertake external courses during this phase. The focus is on stabilisation and identifying the underlying patterns of dependence.
Intermediate Phase (4 Months)
The consolidation and maintenance phase. Clients continue to display positive traits and a commitment to progressing in rehabilitation, working towards greater independence. Leave may be granted with approval, and where appropriate, clients begin restoring relationships with family and loved ones.
Graduation Phase (2 Months)
The final stage — the "letting go" phase. Clients engage in a positive activity such as work or study and accept responsibility for an ongoing maintenance plan. Greater independence is given as clients begin returning to community life. This phase focuses on relapse prevention, securing long-term housing or employment, and finalising a robust aftercare plan.
Program Rules & Accountability
Wayback's program is built on mutual respect and personal accountability. To support your recovery and the wellbeing of all clients, the following policies apply.
Our Recovery Framework
Clients are expected to move quickly towards reducing and ceasing substance use. Clients are also expected to actively participate in all aspects of the Wayback Program including attending all counselling and group sessions, house meetings, lifestyle skills programs, cooking classes, Saturday groups and being home for curfew checks. Wayback staff will work closely with clients to achieve the best healthcare outcomes for them through regular clinical reviews and joint clinical care planning. If clients aren’t ceasing their substance use and actively participating in the Wayback Program, they may not be able to meet Wayback Program requirements to Graduate and will need to be discharged. Wayback works with clients throughout their recovery journey to ensure they Graduate however for some clients, the Wayback Program may not be the best fit for them in their recovery journey.
Client Discharge & Readmission
If a client is discharged from the program, they may apply for readmission after a period of 8 weeks. Readmission is not automatic — the applicant must demonstrate a clear ability and commitment to fully engage in the program before approval is granted.
